Tips for Making Good Decisions as a Team

When it comes to your company, it is essential that you are able to make decisions and implement them faster than your competition. Here are a few tips to improve your decision making skills:

  • Wait until the last minute, but not a second later. The best decisions are just-in-time decisions. If you are able to wait, you allow yourself a chance to be as informed as possible before you make your decision.
  • Don’t be afraid to disagree. When you are making a group decision, be sure that you are clear about what is being decided. Conflicts often stem from a misunderstanding of the objective. If you still find yourself in disagreement, face it head-on and work to resolve it quickly.
  • Disagree and then commit. Everyone should have a chance to be heard, but once a decision is made, the team should fully support the decision.
  • Make the right decision, not the best decision. Don’t let yourself and your team get bogged down in months of deliberation. Every decision involves a risk. Just prepare yourself for what could happen, and get on to the rest of the decisions you have to make.
