How can I create a vanity url for a category or topic page?
This guide assumes you already understand the basics of vanity urls. However, did you know that vanity urls can be applied to any url on your site? What this means is that you can have a vanity url for a knowledgebase topic, an event details page, an OnCue survey, or anything else that doesn't have a content page specifically associated with it.
Say I wanted to create a vanity url for this page, so that when a user goes to http://antharia.com/vanityGuide , they show up at this user guide.
- Login at 44fish.com.
- The first step is to create a new page in onContent. Start in the "Basics" tab. You have to give the page a title, since this is required for all content pages. However this title will not actually show on the page, so just name it something that will help you remember what the page is for. I named the page "Vanity user guide vanity url".
- In the "Options" tab you need to set two fields. The first is "Vanity URL" where you enter your user friendly url, so for my page it is "vanityGuide/" . The second field is "URL", which is two fields down from vanity url. Here you want to put the url of the page you want to show up when a user goes to the vanity url. For this page the url is "resources/details.php?id=92".
- All that's left to do is click "add Content" to create the page. You can check out it out here.
